Minutes of the Meeting


July 21, 2001

THOSE PRESENT: Frank Astemborski, President; Ralph Springer, Vice-President, Edna McKnight, Secretary; Jack Greenleaf; Patti Phillips; Chick Ideker; Bill Henry; Jane Weathersby; Virgilee Scholl.


There were 52 residents in attendance.

President Astemborski called the meeting to order at 2:04 p.m. and led the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance.

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Chick Ideker, and seconded by Jane Weathersby, the minutes of the June 16, 2001 meeting were not read. Each member of the Board had received and read a copy of the minutes prior to the meeting. There were no corrections or additions. Motion was passed.

Treasurer's Report: Current checking account balance as of 7/20/01 was $19,232.03. Two certificates of deposit total $58,919.91. Special events account had a balance of $6,373.33.

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Ralph Springer and seconded by Edna McKnight, the treasurer's report was accepted as read.

Burn Pit: Loads down since last year but the pit is half full since opening the previous weekend. Air curtain destructor will be in this week. Frank went over new rules regarding dumping at the pit. Ralph reported that the burn pit has been operating illegally since inception without a permit. Application for a use permit is $400. Will be applying for a temporary permit to cover usage until regular permit can be obtained. Ralph requested funds from the burn pit account to cover this expense. Jack Greenleaf moved that this expense be approved, Edna McKnight seconded the motion and the board passed the motion. A copy of the bill and check needs to be given to the fire department to go with grant paperwork.

Membership/webs: Current membership is at 597. Discussed information that has been sent to Jeannie VanLew, the webmaster, to be put on the FLOA website.

Roads: Jack had few comments regarding progress on the roads. Discussion was held on culverts and who is responsible for them.

Patti Phillips reported on the 4th of July picnic. Total income was $6405.03, expenses $2,455.76 with net income of $3,949.27. Thanks were extended to everyone who helped.

Jan Walls reported from the school board that Bill Morehead will be the new school bus driver beginning August 20, when school restarts. Still working on setting up a charter school or kindergarten through 4th grade in the Blue Ridge area. Hopefully, this won't effect the tax base.

Fire Auxiliary is having ice cream social July 28.

Diane Mitchell reported on the Block Watch program. This seems to be working very well and everyone is encouraged to join.

Jane Weathersby spoke regarding the Clean & Green award program and urged people to nominate people that have done an outstanding job cleaning their lots. Awards will be presented at the annual meeting.

Diane Mitchell requested that all meeting minutes be read.

The annual meeting will be Saturday night, September 1, at 7:00 p.m Anyone interested in running for the board should contact Frank Astemborski.

There being no further business, and, on a motion made by Edna McKnight and seconded by Bill Henry, the meeting adjourned at 2:34.
