Minutes of the Meeting

FOREST LAKES OWNERS ASSOCIATION

August 19, 2000

THOSE PRESENT: Frank Astemborski, President; Edna McKnight, Secretary; Jack Greenleaf, Virgilee Scholl, Ralph Springer, Jane Weathersby, Irene Evans, Jack Cartwright.

ABSENT:            Bill Henry

There were 40 residents in attendance.

President Astemborski called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m. and led the meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the July 15, 2000 Forest Lakes Owners Association meeting were read by the secretary. Correction for the date of the annual meeting was made to September 2. There being no further additions or correction and

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Ralph Springer and seconded by Irene Evans, the minutes were accepted as amended.

Treasurerís Report: Treasurer's report was read by Irene Evans. As of July 31, 2000 the checking account had a balance of $12,035.43. Expenses for the month totaled $10,170.96 which included the purchase of a $10,000 CD. Total current value of the four CD5 is $55,618.50. The Special Events checking account balance is $7373.21

There being no additions or corrections, and

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Edna McKnight and seconded by Jack Greenleaf, the treasurerís report was accepted. 

Burn Pit: Frank Astemborski reported on activity at the burn pit. The fire department burned the pit and it reopened August 12. 260 loads have been deposited since the 12th. The current burn pit balance $1731.14. $1000 was withheld from last year and should cover the cost of the fire department burning the pit.

There being no additions or corrections, and

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Ralph Springer and seconded by Irene Evans. the burn pit report was accepted.

Website: Virgilee Scholl reported little change on the web site. The evacuation comments are on the site. Membership is at 578. Virgilee is getting ready to start the membership drive in January.

Community Building: Ralph Springer said there wasnít much new to report and doesnít expect to hear much on HR 150 for 30 to 60 days.

Grant Committee: Ralph reported on the formation of the committee and a search for private and public grants. He has been in contact with a lady who is a grant writer. A meeting is tentatively scheduled for late September or early October to work on grant seeking procedures. Committee has met with Forest Service and county representatives who have the responsibility for solid waste disposal in Coconino County. Also reported on the possibility of obtaining a air curtain destructor to burn stumps, logs, slash and needles that prevents air pollution.

Grants may or may not require matching funds from the community.

Community Roads: Jack Greenleaf has been in contact with Mr. Wilbrink who has requested state funds to put right turn lanes in at Merzeville and Sheep Springs.

Nothing has occurred on the Forest Service land swap in the last month.

Cleanup/Fix-up: Jane Weathersby gave an update on the status of the clean-up/fix-up in the community. Congratulations to those who have really done a good job this summer. However, there are still a lot of places that need to be taken care of and the lot numbers are being given to the cleaning crews working in the community.

Frank thanked Jack Cartwright and Rick Brunton for their work in putting storage shelves in the water department storage shed.

Annual meeting will be Saturday, September 2, at 7:00 p.m.

Ralph Springer submitted two requests for funds. The first for $300 for 15 new chairs for use by the community and stored in the school district building.

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Jack Greenleaf, seconded by Jane Weathersby and passed by the board the funds were provided for purchase of the chairs.

The second request for $3,000 to match $3000 of county funds to fund and support FLOA community activities such as home service, consulting services, printing and mailing, etc. The money to be deposited in a separate account and requiring signatures of a board member and a committee member.

ON A MOTION DULY MADE BY Jane Weathersby, seconded by Edna McKnight and passed by the board, the funds were provided as requested.
